Environmental sustainability in the Middle East: A global issue at urban level

Nowadays environmental issues become an integral part of any firms and also a continuous concern for policy makers. In this regard, a series of efforts has been done, which are evident in the literature. non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are considered as one of the main role players in this respect. In this study, the authors try to investigate the effect of these organizations on the environmental issues in line with the seventh goal in the millennium development goals (MDG). The population of our study includes the mangers, employees and volunteer members of the environmental NGOs in Iran. We used a survey and systematic sampling method to choose the sample; and then a questionnaire was designed to examine the hypotheses of our study. Thus after a literature review, we propose the theoretical framework of our study and then the paper concludes. Finally, some policy implications and future directions are proposed for policy makers, researchers, planners, and officials of environmental NGOs.
