Wind profiles up to 600 m height are investigated. Measurements ofmean wind speed profiles were obtained from a novel wind lidar and comparedto model simulations from a mesoscale model (WRF-ARW v3.1). It is found thatWRF is able to predict the mean wind profile rather well and typically within1–2 m s−1 to the individual measured values. WRF underpredicts thenormalized wind profile, especially for stable conditions. The effect ofbaroclinicity on the upper part of the wind profile is discussed.
