The present contribution addresses the performance of a statistical extremewind analysis over the whole Mediterranean Basin. Estimations of returnperiods and levels are obtained over offshore areas through analysis ofannual wind maxima. An alternative regional statistic method, based onregional L-moments, is also proposed. This regional technique allowsincreasing the sample size, using data from a homogeneous region instead ofonly from a single location, reducing therefore uncertainty. The performedstatistical extreme wind analyses provide a detailed assessment ofMediterranean offshore high wind areas.
