Exercise Training Modulates Insulin Resistance and Inflammatory Cytokines in Obese Non-insulin Dependent Diabetic Patients

Background: Some plasma biomarkers of inflammation have been recently recognized as importantcardiovascular risk factors. Currently, there is little information about the effects of aerobic exercise training onthese biomarkers and the risk of metabolic complications in type 2 diabetes patients. Objective: The aim of thisstudy was compare the impact of moderate versus mild aerobic exercise training on insulin resistance andinflammatory cytokines in obese type 2 diabetic patients. Material and Methods: Fifty obese type 2 diabeticpatients of both sexes with body mass index (BMI) ranged from 31 to 36 Kg/m2, non smokers, free fromrespiratory, kidney; liver, metabolic and neurological disorders were recorded in this study. Their age rangedfrom 40 to 55 years. The subjects were included into 2 equal groups; the first group (A) received moderateaerobic exercise training. The second group (B) received mild aerobic exercise training three times a week for 3months. Results: The mean values of leptin, TNF- α, IL2, IL4, IL6, HOMA-IR and HBA1c were significantlydecreased in group (A) and group (B).Also; there was a significant difference between both groups aftertreatment. Conclusion: Moderate aerobic exercise training is more appropriately modulate insulin resistance,adipocytokines and inflammatory cytokine levels than mild aerobic exercise training in obese type 2 diabeticpatients.
