In corporate strategy it is frequent to classify as strategic alliances all the administrativerelations between companies that are not supported by ownership. Following Chandlername, the firms that have administrative coordination supported by partial ownership arecalled Modern Business Enterprises. In this paper the explicative hypothesis for the existenceof firms are presented in the first part, followed by a classification of the Modern BusinessEnterprises.
