Content Analysis of Papers Submitted to Communications in Information Literacy, 2007-2013

Theauthorconductedacontentanalysisofpaperssubmittedtothejournal,CommunicationsinInformationLiteracy,fromtheyears2007-2013.Thepurposewastoinvestigateandreportontheoverallqualitycharacteristicsofastatisticallysignificantsampleofpaperssubmittedtoasingle-topic,openaccess,libraryandinformationscience(LIS)journal.Characteristicsofmanuscriptsubmissions,authorship,reviewerevaluations,andeditorialdecisionswereilluminatedtoprovidecontext;particularemphasiswasgiventotheanalysisofmajorcriticismsfoundinreviewerevaluationsofrejectedpapers.Overallresultswerecomparedtopreviouslypublishedresearch.Thefindingssuggestatrendinfavorofcollaborativeauthorship,andapossibletrendtowardamorepractice-basedliterature.ThefindingsalsosuggestapossibledeteriorationinsomeoftheskillsthatarerequiredofLISauthorsrelativetothepreparationofscholarlypapers.Theauthordiscussespotentialimplicationsforauthorsandthedisciplinaryliterature,recommendsdirectionsforfutureresearch,andwherepossible,providesrecommendationsforthebenefitofthegreatercommunityofLISscholars.
