Sinceanepizooticanddetectionofclinicalcasesoftularemia(Francisellatularensis)in1996attheOregonNationalPrimateResearchCenter,only8caseswereidentifiedinthesucceeding13y.However,withinaperiodof7mo,primarilyduringWinter2010,6rhesusmacaqueswereconfirmedpositiveforFrancisellatularensistypeBbytheCentersforDiseaseControlandPreventionbycultureandfluorescentantibodytesting.Allcaseshadsimilargrosspathologicfindings,whichincludednecrotizingsplenitisandlymphadenitis.Recentcolonymanagementeffortshavefocusedonminimizingnonhumanprimateexposuretocommonlyobservedreservoirspeciesandcontrollingrodentaccesstocorral-stylehousing.Strategiescontinuetoevolvewithregardtomanagingalargebreedingcolonyofnonhumanprimatesinthepresenceofthisthreat.
