1 We noted that the authors presented the study of C1-2 facet joint morphology using thin-slice computed tomography in patients with unreducible atlantoaxial dislocation (AAD), basilar invagination (BI), and atlas occipitalization. They stated that their study was the first of its kind to attempt to understand the abnormal morphology of the C1-2 facet joint and a related study had not yet been performed.We strongly object to their so-called first description of their study. The authors should have reviewed the literature thoroughly so that all of the relevant references could be duly cited and credit appropriately given to the original contributors. We wish to express our ideas to the authors and readers of Neurosurgery.For the first time, in 2011, we established the 3-dimensional configuration and morphometric data of the lateral atlantoaxial articulations (atlantoaxial facet joint) in patients with BI and atlas occipitalization and in control groups.
