In 2011, a company called Inteligistics announced that it would be building a wireless asset trackingsystem for the U.S. Navy, according to a report by loT.now. This technology would enable the Navyto monitor the location, inventory and environmental data for thousands of shipping containersthroughout the world.This supply chain management system for naval logistics utilizes acombination of radio frequency identification (RFID), ZigBee-compliant wireless transmitters, andcellular phone connections to collect data from each shipping container that utilizes the system.This would be one of the Navy's first plunges into the so-called Internet of Things (loT).
