Synthesis, characterization and crystal structures of hydrazone compounds derived from isonicotinohydrazide

New isonicotinohydrazone compounds, N’ -(3-bromobenzylidene)isonicotinohydrazide ( 1 ) and N’ -(2,3-difluorobenzylidene)isonicotinohydrazide ( 2 ), were prepared and structurally characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV and sup1/supH NMR spectra, and single crystal X-ray determination. Compound 1 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P 2sub1/sub/ n with unit cell dimensions a = 7.600(2) ?, b = 11.365(2) ?, c = 14.412(2) ?, β = 101.748(2)o, V = 1218.7(4) ?sup3/sup, Z = 4, R sub1/sub = 0.0335, and wR sub2/sub = 0.0745. Compound 2 crystallizes in the triclinic space group P -1 with unit cell dimensions a = 7.6241(6) ?, b = 11.3937(9) ?, c = 14.335(1) ?, α = 79.664(1)o, β = 75.990(1)o, γ = 71.159(1)o, V = 1136.5(2) ?sup3/sup, Z = 4, R sub1/sub = 0.0345, and wR sub2/sub = 0.0940. Structures of both compounds are stabilized by hydrogen bonds and π···π interactions.
