摘要

In this work, we studied the histochemical effects of ascorbic acid on immunosuppressive drug-azathioprine-induced alterations in the testis of adult Wistar rats. The rats (n=30) with mean weight 210±2.65 g were assigned into four treatment (n=24) and control (n=6) groups. The rats in the treated groups II and IV received 10 and 20 mg/kg/Bwt of AZA respectively, rats in the treated groups III and V received 10 and 20 mg/kg/Bwt of AZA combined with 25 mg/kg/Bwt and 50 mg/kg/Bwt of ascorbic acid respectively, while rats in control group received equal ml of distilled water for 21 days after which they were sacrificed; testes were excised, weighed and fixed in Bouins’ fluid for histochemical studies of reticulin and collagen. The histochemical findings of testis sections indicated cyto-architectural distortions in the treated groups as compared with the control group. The findings show that ascorbic acid cannot ameliorate the damages caused by azathioprine.
