The Yearbook of Psychoanalysis contains twenty-four articles covering notonly psychoanalytic theory but its applications to other fields. Freud's early life as a medical student is written about by Siegfried Bernfield who reveals that the great pioneer at that period of his life was not able to emancipate himself until his late twenties. The paper by Anna Freud on "The Contributions of Psychoanalysis to Genetic Psychology" is a thoughtful, clear, and learned discussion of the related trends in academic psychology and in psychoanalysis. Her criticisms of the experiments in psychoanalytical theory by psychologists are well made and could be read with interest by them, and she is helpfully constructive and sincere in delineating the areas of ego structure and character which can be meaningfully investigated by the psychological researcher.
