Dr. Guttmacher has been psychiatric advisor to the courts of Baltimore, Maryland, for the past twenty years. He also served in 1948 as psychiatric advisor to the Committee of the United Nations Social Commission studying the causes and prevention of crime, and the treatment of offenders. In 1951, he delivered a series of three lectures at Stanford University as guest speaker for the Jacob Gimbel Lectureship in Sex Psychology. It is these three lectures which have been expanded to form this very provocative book.
