摘要

Tanya Müller García likes to ride herbike to work. Mexico City’s EnvironmentSecretary, and former Chief Director ofUrban Parks and Bike Infrastructure,Müller has a specialist’s understandingof what her journey means for the city, and a common-sense view of what itmeans for her health. “I don’t get to cycleevery day, but when I can, I do. It’s goodfor my health, and good for the city’s air.”Bringing together health and environmentalissues in this way is nothingnew. The World Health Organization(WHO) and the United Nations EnvironmentProgramme have been working withpolicy-makers in developing countriesto tackle the challenges of declining airquality, decreased physical activity andthe health risks associated with car usagein cities as part of the Health and EnvironmentLinkages Initiative since 2004.
