Progress Report on the MEDLARS Project

It is with great pleasure that I open the third session of the Second International Congress on Medical Librarianship. The topic of the session is "Progress Report on the MEDLARS Project." In the second session, the utilization of machines for general bibliographic purposes was described, and some very interesting examples in biomedical fields were presented. This Session will be devoted to the genesis and development of a whole new bibliographic system for the medical sciences. I believe I am correct in stating that MEDLARS is the most complete mechanized system developed to date in any field and that it is unique in the typography available for its principal outputs.
