A HISTORY OF DENTAL LIBRARIES IN THE UNITED STATES With Sketches of Important Dental Libraries in Canada and Foreign Countries

THE history of the dental library in America is so influenced by the history of dental education that it will be necessary for me to give you a few glimpses of the evolution of dental education in this country, in order to complete the picture of the development of the dental library. In wading through the scattered literature, one finds some evidence of private libraries of dentists who were born prior to the nineteenth century, but whose professional careers began after the turn of the century. It is quite likely, then, that these private libraries were accumulated after their owners entered the dental field in the early eighteen hundreds.
