Description of Monoleptoides gen.nov. from the Afrotropical Region, including the revision of nine species (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae: Galerucinae)

Due to their specific external and genitalic patterns, several species of Afrotropical Galerucines, most of themoriginally described in MonoleptaChevrolat, 1837 and CandezeaChapuis, 1879, are transferred to the new genus Monolep-toides. This group is phylogenetically well defined and comprises nine previously described species, some of them wellknown, abundant, and widely distributed in tropical Africa. Taxa newly combined with Monoleptoidesand new synonymiesinclude: Crioceris duplicataSahlberg, 1823 (= Monolepta pulchellaKlug, 1835; = Monolepta fasciaticollisLaboissière,1940a, syn. nov.; = Monolepta quinquepunctataLaboissière, 1940a, syn. nov.); Monolepta trivialisGerstaecker, 1855 (=Candezea umbilicataLaboissière, 1920, syn. nov.); Monolepta didymaGerstaecker, 1871; Monolepta thomsoniAllard,1888; Monolepta advenaWeise, 1910 (= Monolepta keniensisBryant, 1953; syn. nov.); Candezea centromaculataJaco-by, 1900; Candezea horniLaboissière, 1931; Candezea mertensi Laboissière, 1940b; Candezea sulcataLaboissière, 1940a(= Candezea sexplagiataLaboissière 1940a; syn. nov.). Detailed descriptions for the generotype, Monoleptoides dupli-cataand redescriptions of all species, as well as an identification key are given. Collection data are recorded in detail forthe 1190 specimens studied, and summarized in distribution maps.
