Análise das condicionantes socioecon?micas e ambientais para a implanta??o da silvicultura nas regi?es Norte e Noroeste Fluminense

The Northern and Northwestern sections of Rio de Janeiro State have historically?invested in coffee growing – an important crop in the agricultural and export history of?Brazil, along with sugar cane plantations to meet the demands of the sugar industry?which has, over the past decades, lost its dynamics. In this scenario, pastures have?increased, making farming the major agricultural activity in these regions. However,?this has been conducted with low technology and productivity, leading to environmental?degradation. This paper proposes forestry as a sustainable development alternative for?the Northern and Northwestern areas of the state. It was possible to verify that these?regions have adequate socio-economic and environmental conditions for the installation?of various forest species. If well managed, this activity can generate attractive economic?initiatives, as well as environmental preservation and conservation.
