As a young man in the 1980s, Lim Shao Binstudied and worked in Japan, where he developed a lifelong passion for collecting Japanesehistorical materials on Singapore and SoutheastAsia. As a student on a scholarship sponsoredby a Japanese precision engineering company,Lim would make monthly trips to the offce inthe Kanda district in Tokyo to report on theprogress of his studies.
