The evidence presented above demonstrates that reliance on secondary sources alone cannot underpin serious research, and that even apparently authoritative primary sources - the Plan of Hold, the Curtis letter, and 'official' records, for example - can mislead researchers. As a result, previous commentators, both corporate and individual, each with sound claims to authority, have not been able to present an accurate description of a set of machinery which marked a watershed in the development of marine steam turbines. The actual arrangement in Tiger based on the machinery of the Renown class is shown in Figure 11.
