Why VFDs will be integral to being 'Fit for 55'

The clock is ticking fast for industry in the UK, Europe, and throughout the world when it comes to reducing carbon emissions in engineering and manufacturing processes. With the European Commission having set out its European Green Deal (Fit for 55) in July to reduce net greenhouse emissions by at least 55 percent by 2030, compared to 1990 levels, it will be down to industry to meet much of the reduction in carbon emissions. While many believe new technology is the answer, variable frequency drive (VFD) technology is already here and capable of cutting energy use by up to 50 percent in many electric motor applications. From manufacturing to water pumping, agriculture to mining, most industries have an application involving an electric motor, resulting in high energy usage.
