Back to the future: Improving the efficiency of our hydropower network

Hydroelectricity remains an attractive renewable energy source, especially in Europe which has a large network of hydro-power plants. According to the International Energy Agency, the global installed hydro-power capacity in 2019 was 1307GW. China, India and Brazil are expected to lead the growth in new hydropower facilities over the next five years, but many European countries already have a vast network of established hydropower facilities.
