Romax has developed an industry specific element of its RomaxDesigner software suite, called RomaxWIND, which was officially launched in April this year. It comes as part of the R12.6 edition and incorporates new features aimed specifically at wind turbine gearbox design and analysis. It was developed in conjunction with the company's wind energy clients. The new edition includes a number of additional features within the RomaxDurability and RomaxBearing product ranges. Romax has strived to provide the most complete environment for virtual product development of wind turbine nacelle drive trains, gearboxes and bearings. RomaxWIND provides an 'all-in-one' software tool tailored for wind turbine applications and encompasses the design, sizing and optimisation of drive train systems. Using a novel approach to planetary gear simulation, the software is able to produce in-depth results for deflections, alignments, vibration and dynamic response of wind turbine gearboxes in record time. This accuracy and speed enables complex numerical simulations to be performed up front in the design cycle, so that system interactions between gearbox, drive train and turbine can be considered in full.
