Many high volume, low cost injection moulded products such as bottle caps, containers, pots etc are de-moulded using a free-fall system. The product is ejected as the mould opens and is directed onto a conveyor system located beneath the mould. This method is inexpensive to implement but can have disadvantages. These include:- Increased cycle times: greater mould opening strokes and re-closure delays are required to ensure the ejected product clears the mould. This increases the overall production cycle time. Unreliable product verification: it is difficult to verify that all products have been ejected successfully. This increases the risk of mould closure onto a part, resulting in machine shutdown. Frequent shutdowns increase downtime and require greater operator supervision.
