Applying sealant to duct flanges during roll-forming

Thorite has helped provide a novel solution to the problem of simultaneously applying sealant to a ductwork slide-on flange as it is roll-formed from sheet. Process and vacuum products manager, Clive Halliday, was called in by Scarborough specialist sheet metal, roll-forming and ductwork company Firmac, to discuss adding this innovative feature to a new roll-forming machine it was developing for a Middle Eastern client. Firmac wanted to add the sealant applicator to a roll-former that produces slide-on flanges for air conditioning ductwork. But as the roll forming process is carried out under variable speed control the sealant needed to be applied at the same proportional speed in order to ensure seal integrity.
