摘要

Although further fighting was avoided, there can be little doubt that the willingness of the Allied Armies to re-engage their combat per-sona after more than six months of peace led directly to the German decision to sign the Treaty of Versailles. While consisting of "sec-ond class troops", there can also be no doubt that the German Army would have reacted to the further invasion of their homeland. For the Doughboys of the Third Army, it might have been a costly proposition; ask their sons who fought their way through the same area in the spring of 1945 in the twilight of the Second World War in Europe.
