The US Army Materiel Command is the Army's premier provider of materiel readiness-technology, acquisition support, materiel development, logistics power projection, and sustainment-to the total force, across the spectrum of joint military operations. The command's complex missions range from development of sophisticated weapons systems and cutting-edge research, to maintenance and distribution of spare parts. AMC operates the research, development and engineering centers; Army Research Laboratory; depots, arsenals and ammunition plants; and maintains the Army's Prepositioned Stocks, both on land and afloat. The command is the Department of Defense Executive Agent for the chemical weapons stockpile and for conventional ammunition.
