Bulgaria: Bulgarians went to the polls on April 4, 2021, to elect all 240 seats in the National Assembly (Narodno sabranie). GERB-SDS, which led the outgoing coalition Government under Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, won 75 seats, down 20 from the previous parliament. The new ITN under Slavi Trivonov won 51 seats, the second largest party bloc in the new Assembly. Prime Minister Borissov, 61, on April 14, 2021, said that he would not be a candidate to lead the next government. There was doubt that GERB could achieve a fourth coalition government, or at least one which could be sustained, although negotiations between the parties began immediately after the election.
