The spending cuts have had major effects on all aspects of the public sector, and the armed services will not escape this either. The Coalition Government's plan to change the method by which pension payment increments in the public sector (which includes the armed forces) are calculated has proven a source of particular consternation.One organisation to call into question government intentions towards forces' pension benefits is the Forces Pension Society (FPS), one of the UK's oldest armed forces welfare organisations. The society's remit since the 1940s has been to campaign on behalf of armed forces pensioners, past, present and future.
