As a result of the largest ever UK military air traffic capability review, Joint Military Air Traffic System 0MATS) is a 21st Century procurement programme charged with replacing a plethora of legacy and increasingly obsolescent military terminal air traffic control systems with a service that will deliver a more coherent, capable, and reliable system to UK MoD. With a planned implementation date of 2014, the multimillion pound programme, which has recently passed external audit, is being managed by the Air Command & Control Systems (ACCS) delivery team from DE&S Abbeywood. With main gate business case approval planned for 2012, several defence consortia are currently preparing proposals to meet customer requirements and competitive dialogue and ultimately down-select is anticipated through 2011.
