New Zealand - geographically isolated but important in terms of world affairs as an asset via its credentials in democracy, nuclear disarmament and active participation in organisations such as the UN - has entered the 21st Century. The country's credentials were established thanks to its participation in the two world wars on the Allied side, the Vietnam War, sending troops in the peace-building efforts as a part of International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan after the attacks on the Twin Towers, and periodically raising its voice in nuclear non-proliferation forums.
