The people of South Asia who earnestly want a political settle ment between the leaders of India and Pakistan are looking forward to the meeting of Present Musharraf and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of India on the sidelines of the 60th annual session of the US General Assembly later this month in New York. Meeting there, as they did last September during the 59th annual session of the General Assembly, they can seek a break-through in the Kashmir dispute which has been bedeviling the relations between the two countries. The 1.2 billion people of the two countries of whom half are poor, can ill afford the strained relations between the neighbors nor can they make their make their leap for rapid economic progress truly meaningful if their strained relations continue.
