Service providers are rapidly increasing their deployments of residential gateways for connected home applications, according to Parks Associates' latest report "Networks in the Home: The Global Service Provider Play." The report forecasts the total number of households worldwide with service provider-deployed residential gateway solutions will grow to more than 70 million by year-end 2012. Home networks typically serve as a platform to which consumers can add more connected devices, which are usually purchased through retail.
