摘要

Next-generation HDDs will need to keep the read-write (R/W) heads steadily on track during all manner of external vibration-related disturbances regardless of track densities and environmental conditions. Within the labs at STMicroelectronics, a MEMS-based (micro electrical mechanical system) rotational accelerometer is being used to enhance the performance of the track-follow servo in HDDs. The device, which provides an indication of the rotary disturbances that act upon the drive's VCM actuator, will help drive designers push the limits of track density, and related areal density, without degrading the tracking performance.
