Reflections from a Senior Scholar: Creating and Sustaining a MIS Advisory Board

MIS Advisory Boards are a useful way for connecting with the business community. They can provide curriculum advice, assess the importance of emerging trends, provide speakers for classes, provide scholarships for students, participate in research studies, and promote the MIS program. The issues that arise when creating and sustaining a Board include how to get started, whether to have students on the Board, how much to charge for membership dues, how to sustain Board membership, how to make Board meetings interesting, how much work to expect from Board members, and how much to provide in scholarships. Experiences at the University of Georgia are described.
