The conveying part of the dairy processing plant is an important part of getting product from A to B without getting stuck. What's in a conveyor? The installation of a machine to move your product around the dairy processing plant probably doesn't excite much interest, but should it break down or get product stuck in it, then suddenly it can become a headache. The requirements for sanitation are a huge demand within the dairy industry, according to Teri Johnson, Product marketing manager of Key Technologies. This is part of the conveyor's job - to not only convey, but to convey the product in a sanitary manner. "To address this need, the Iso-Flo shakers are manufactured from stainless steel," she says. "Additionally, new Iso-Flo shakers feature scalloped flat bars, sealed isolation springs, and a smooth 2B surface finish that discourage bacteria growth. A patented removable gate enables the sanitation crew to easily and thoroughly clean the area." Similarly, the Trad conveyor from Swedish company Meco Pak is also constructed of stainless steel to allow full wash downs. It may also be constructed of aluminium if needed. Endoline has designed its conveyors to be very easy to clean, as well as being of open channel construction to allow product to accumulate only where required and not in inaccessible places, the company says. "Belts are easy to remove and bearings are sealed against cleaning fluid or product ingress," according to spokesperson Debbie Tinsey.
