Dairy of the desert

Dairy consumption in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has risen steadily during the past decade, due to the rise in disposable income and the continued increase of the large expatriate population. The dairy industry will witness further expansion in future as the number of foreign workers and overseas residents continues to grow. Local dairy production has grown substantially since the mid-1990s, while the volume of dairy product imports has expanded to meet the shortfall in domestic supplies. Fresh milk, cheese, yogurt and condensed milk are among regular import items, much of its supplied from Saudi Arabia, the Gulf region's largest dairy producer.
