The increase in public awareness of food nowadays - what's in it, where it comes from and so forth - is both significant and positive. From this has emerged the concept ofrn'provenance' and this has inspired food manufacturers everywhere to spill out chapter and verse, with detailed information, on regional characteristics. Quite why no one seems to have anticipated the leap where consumers would also be increasingly interested in farm production systems, is quite beyond me.
