For an operation that has been in business since 1922, the Ornua Foods location in Leek, UK, looks very modern. With around 650 employees and 24 packaging lines, the plant supplies more than 40 per cent of the hard cheese found on store shelves in the UK, with cheddars, Red Leicesters, Double Gloucesters, reduced fat cheeses, grated cheeses and a range of blended cheeses such as cranberry and Stilton all represented on the lines. Pilgrims Choice cheese is also packaged there. Ornua Nutrition Ingredients, which has an average turnover of £35 million (€39.9m), is also on-site and is a supplier of nutrition ingredients to the UK, European and global food industry.
