The popularity of the lactose-free dairy category continues its upward trajectory, with the market expected to exceed €9.7 billion by 2024. Recent DSM research also showed that five per cent of consumers now follow a lactose-free diet, while 40 per cent are seeking more lactose-free products. The high demand for lactose-free products stems from several motivations, lactose intolerance remains a key factor in the popularity of these products, but growth has been further accelerated by the rising numbers of consumers - especially those aged 18-34 - turning to lactose-free solutions for their perceived health benefits, particularly those with added nutritional benefits or diverse product positionings.
