摘要

Our results suggest that Americans continue to be skeptical about completing transactions using crypto-currencies across the scenarios we considered. This is somewhat surprising, since Bitcoin has already been around for more than a decade. We also found that the product or service to be purchased affects Americans' willingness to use cryptocurrencies. High-ticket items, such as physical products and vacation services, exhibited the largest mean differences in continued preference for credit cards (over cryptocurrencies) as the digital payment system of choice. This indicates that price may also be a key factor affecting Americans' willingness to use cryptocurrencies. When looking at the reasons for deciding to use (or not to use) cryptocurrencies, participants pointed to "ease of use" as the most frequently mentioned response, followed by security, and the absence of financial intermediaries. Interestingly, security concerns were also the most common reason participants cited for not using cryptocurrencies, followed by the lack of intermediaries and price (exchange rate) volatility.
