George P., McGinnis (1919-2006) was an electrical engineering student at the University of California, Santa Barbara, when he joined the Naval Reserve in 1941. After graduation, he went on active duty in March of 1942. From 1942 until 1944, he was the Officer in Charge of the Naval Radio Station in Recife, Brasil1. From 1944 until 1945, he was stationed at Headquarters, Naval Security Group in Washington, D.C. After World War II, McGinnis was stationed with the NSA predecessor, the Armed Forces Security Agency, from 1949 until 1951. From 1951 until his retirement in 1973 as a Navy Captain, his assignments alternated between the Naval Security Group (where he commanded several NSG Group Activities) and the NSA. From 1969 until 1971, McGinnis was the commanding officer of the Naval Communications Training Center, Corry Field, and from 1971 until 1973 he was the executive officer of the National Cryptologic School at the NSA.
