More High-voltage dc Power Supply Notes

In the July 2007 column, I described a 170-VDC power supply that I use with my ARC-5 receiver. Since I'm now starting to play with some vacuum-tube transmitters, I need higher voltage DC power supply voltages for some of the transmitters. As I mentioned in the previous column, voltage doublers and triplers can provide higher voltages from the output of a 13.8-VDC to 120-VAC inverter. I still strongly encourage you to use an inverter or an isolation transformer rather than plugging into your AC outlet for safety reasons-i.e., if your hot and neutral wires are reversed, you can have a real shock hazard. Remember: High DC voltages and improperly connected AC line voltages are very dangerous. Be careful!
