630 Meters for the QRPer

When the FCC authorizes 630 meters for U.S. amateur radio operators, longwave communication will be possible for all hams — even low power enthusiasts. As this is written, we are awaiting FCC action on a proposal to allow U.S. amateurs to operate in the 630-meter band (472-479 kHz) as well as 2200 meters (135.7-137.8 kHz)1. As most hams realize, operating at these frequencies requires electrically-long antennas and different operating techniques from those used on HF. But as with an HF antenna, electrically long doesn't necessarily mean physically long.
