HSE to enforce the ban on the use of non integrated man baskets Even when they are used safely

For some 5 years now we have been arguing with the HSE that non integrated man baskets can be used safely and so they shouldrnnot be prohibited.rnAt our recent meeting with the HSE they could not provide any statistics to prove that non integrated baskets, when correctly used,rnare unsafe and the cause of many accidents but as apparently they do not comply with an EU directive they will be prohibited.rnAlthough they were involved in agreeing the directive they are not going to try and change it, nor are they going to continue to turnrna blind eye, they are going to try and stop their use.rnWhen there has been an increase in the number of fatalities on construction sites you have to wonder why they have picked thisrntime to enforce this decision, would it be disingenuous to suggest that it is an easy target, as if they are successful it is unlikely tornmake any difference to the accident rates, although there is a risk that it will caused accident as contractors who comply with thisrnprohibition are likely to fall back on less safe equipment, which is not contrary to a directive.rnFollowing our meeting I wrote some notes of the meeting and drafted a letter to be sent out to Ridba members, these notes werernsent to the HSE for comment, but they have not done so.
