As is often the case with any significant change, necessity is the driving force. The internal auditing department, like any other function within a company, must constantly strive to balance its risks and resources. By co-sourcing some of its niche activities, internal auditing is discovering that it can maximize its audit coverage without adding staff or without substantially increasing its budget.
