The corrosion behavior of additively manufactured (AM) Al-6061 RAM2 was compared with conventional extruded Al-6061 T6 within ten days of exposure in 0.5M NaCl solution using electrochemical measurement and microscopic observations. At the beginning of exposure, the AM samples revealed superior corrosion performance compared to extruded counterparts. However, by increasing the time of exposure, the corrosion resistance of those samples decayed continuously. Incorporation of Ti-rich and B4C particles as the microstructure modifiers in the AM matrix reduced the integrity of the native oxide layer. It led to the cracking of the barrier film and severe localized corrosion.
