Infrared vibrational band shapes in excited states

摘要

This article describes the behaviour of the shapes of the IR bands of coordination compounds on electronic excitation. Broadening on excitation is frequently, but not invariably, observed; any broadening is the result of a subtle interplay of the properties of the vibrational mode, the excited state and the solvent.
