Integration of European financial services markets

The potential benefits of European financial markets integration could be undermined by EC policies. It appears that market ideology is being elevated above consumer interests. The major market failures seen in the UK financial services market risk being repeated on an EU scale unless policymakers learn from the UK how not to reform and regulate markets. Fundamental reform of the governance of EC institutions is also needed to promote consumer interests.
