Work Towards Chief Construction Officer Tops Cbi Boss's Workload

The CBI Construction Council is pushing hard for the Government to appoint a chief construction officer, chairman John McDonough has revealed. In an interview with Construction News, Mr McDonough, also Carillion chief executive, said it was "important to get things going on the chief construction officer side". As the third CBI sector group -joining the financial services and manufacturing councils - the Construction Council was created in October to give a single voice to construction business interests. The council, probably now the most powerful lobbying force in the construction sector, has written several letters to ministers about the role and responsibilities of a chief construction officer, ahead of a meeting in April. Next month's meeting will be the council's third.There have also been several summits with Downing Street, the Department for Business and the Office of Government Commerce.
